New Hampshire scenic drive

Friday marked the end of 3 weeks on the road!!  We celebrated with a glass of bubbly this morning, along with our coffee, and the obligatory 90 minutes of cat walks with the kitties in the woods chasing chipmunks...
We decided to leave the kitties home today and headed out for a driving tour (not like we haven’t done enough driving, but one has to explore when one has the chance).  We headed to Fryeburg which is essentially on the Maine/New Hampshire border. We hung out in the traffic going to the annual Country Fair, and quickly crossed that off our list of things to do.  We didn’t go anywhere near the actual Fair...

We took a tour through Conway, North Conway and East Conway (which are all different towns!) looking for a Visitor Info Centre.  Lots of pretty scenery.
We drove the White Mountain scenic loop – from Conway on the SE corner of the loop – north to Glen and west to Cannon Mtn on Hwys 302 & 3, south to Lincoln and east on the Kancamagus Hay (#112) back to Lincoln.  We did a nice hike at Flume Gorge, and enjoyed a lovely kiss on the Albany Covered Bridge (they’re called “kissing bridges”... it’s a rule!!) and we saw 4 ski hill areas – Attitash, Bretton Woods, Cannon Mountain and Loon Mountain –the latter of which was really the only “mountain” we saw.  The countryside is very pretty, and the colours this time of year are really gorgeous, but the drive made us appreciate Calgary’s proximity to the majestic rockies.  We are so very lucky to live where we do (for lots of reasons!).

One of the ski hills (mountains) we passed.

Pumpkin Teddy Bears... in downtown (Central) Conway.

One of the many "Notch" State Parks we passed through
The White Mountain area contained several State Parks representing the “notches” or passes thru the mountains.
Lovely colours on the hillside

The Flume Gorge... complete with waterfall & glacial boulders.

The Albany covered bridge over Swift River; one of many covered bridges in the area

The area is very lovely with lots to see and do. But we can only do so much in a day!  Tomorrow starts our 4th week on the road... onward

  1. all your trip sounds exciting, any cramped space symptoms yet?

  2. Well... yes. It's been raining for a couple of days, and 375 sq.ft. is small for kitties used to running up and down stairs in a large house. We have perfected the art of kitty wand toys - and the laser toy running up and down the walls. It helps keep the energy down in the cats - and it exercises us as well. It's a large trailer, but a small space for 2 people and 2 cats... so far no casualties...
